Everyone Uses Toll Free

When toll free was introduced in the 1960s, large corporations were generally the only toll free number subscribers. The number of subscribers grew steadily over the next decade as the 1-800 numbers proved themselves to be a very effective means of attracting new customers. The owners of smaller businesses took notice when toll free numbers became more readily available, new area codes were introduced, and service grew more affordable.
