Tollfreenumber.ORG: Owners of unused 1(800) numbers urged to relieve demand
Posted by Tollfreenumber.ORG at December 9th, 2012
As TollfreeNumber.ORG reported last month, The toll free number supply has reached an all-time low. (report)
Out of 10 million total 800 area code numbers, it’s estimated that only around 5 million of those numbers are actually being actively used and marketed by their owners.
Rather than being utilized as the valuable marketing and business promotion tool that they are, they are sitting dormant waiting for misdials or simply playing a recording that directs them to another phone number.
Since it is so difficult to obtain an 800 area code, discarding and recycling any unused 800 numbers that you may already own is a great option and may also save money on monthly surcharges and taxes on having a toll free number.
The Toll Free Number Organization is leading the charge
Tollfreenumber.ORG is putting out a call to action to all owners of unused 800 numbers, asking them to let the numbers go back into the spare pool, so that we can try to replenish the stock. After all, the 844 number won’t be released anytime soon to help relieve overwhelming demand.
Why you should discard your unused 800 number.
If you aren’t using your 800 number, then there are very few (if any) reasons why should hold on to it. There isn’t a particular site where you are able to legally post your 800 number for sale, including general marketplace sites (such as eBay or craigslist) these often come with legal risk and often involve a significant waste of time and effort on your part.
Instead, why not choose to send it back to the spare pool for someone else to use to enhance their marketing efforts or boost business. If you were to put the proverbial shoe on the other foot, then you would see why discarding or recycling an unused 800 number may be worthwhile- someone who has been waiting for quite some time for their ideal number (which you happen to currently own and aren’t actively using) can now utilize that number to further their marketing goals and business endeavors.
The benefits of recycling your 800 number.
- By recycling your 800 number, you are giving someone else the change of utilizing it to get the most benefit from it.
- If you are holding on to an 800 number, then you are probably still paying a small monthly fee for the toll free number service, and you can get rid of this extra monthly expense by discarding your 800 number as well.
- Also, if you have multiple 800 numbers that you have held onto for the sole purpose of reselling them, then you may actually face significant fines if you sell those 800 numbers. An FCC law that was passed back in 1997 stipulates that it is illegal to “hoard and warehouse” 800 numbers.
Therefore, recycling them through the aging process at TollfreeNumber.ORG can enable you to get rid of the numbers and their fees in a perfectly legal way. Another key point that must be made is that getting rid of your current 800 number enable you to invest in another number which may be better suited to your business needs today.
If you have an unused 800 number and would like to return it to the spare pool, you may do so at TollfreeNumber.ORG. You may also purchase alternative toll free numbers via the site as well.
